How to Keep Kids Safe Online

10 useful tips for online safety of your kids

Because I am a website developer as well as a father i want to be sure that my children can use the internet in the safest way possible. Because I know the internet can be a dangerous place for children I created a small but helpful list how to keep your child safer when being online.

1. Find and install a safety browser. You can find multiple if you search for "safety+browser".

2. Learn your child(ren) never to give out personal information online.

3. Avoid uploading pictures of your child and / or their surroundings.

4. Don't let your child use a webcam. If you own one unplug it when you do not need it.

5. When choosing a nickname for your child avoid using personal info. Don't mention schoolname, city, neighborhood or things like that in their nickname.

6. Never leave your child behind the computer unattended.

7. Teach children never to agree on meeting internet-friend without the parent present.

8. Look for as much information about parental control tools that can help you keep your child safe online.

9. Make sure you know your child's email account and passwords.

10. Last but not least: Talk to your child about the internet and the many risks involved. Educate children and spend time with them online so you know with whom they are involved.

When it comes to the safety of our children it is always better to be safe then sorry!
